Dogs & Animals receive more Compassion, Call to Action than Immigrant Human Children. — Bohemian Visions

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” ~Inscription on the Statue of Liberty
This is the most heartbreaking article I have had to write. I am sure it will not be last. So many emotions are going through my mind, the one that stands out the most is anger.
This is just a handful of the thousands of tweets regarding the inhumane treatment of Men, Women, & Children. Children as young as infants are mistreated, abused, assaulted, and neglectfully killed while in the custody of Border Control Agents. This is beyond fucked up on an epic level. No human being deserves to be treated this way.
Reading these particular Twitter posts is very unsettling. The conditions in which these innocent babies are subjected to is disgusting and inhumane. As a Parent, how can anyone not be bothered by this? It doesn’t matter what your race, ethnicity, political stance on immigration is, these are children. They are someone’s babies. They are innocent and should not be subjected to this cruel, inhumane treatment. It’s incredibly heartbreaking that nothing is really being done about this. It’s all talk, but no actions.
The biggest hypocrisy and sad irony, the United States was founded on the premise of immigration. People from all over the world left their homeland to make a better life for themselves. Now the majority of the immigrants came to the colonies via prison sentence, escaping religious persecution, millions were kidnapped and forced into chattel slavery, or simply fled due to fear of disease and famine from an epidemic.
Over four hundred years later, counting the time of being a British territory, the country’s independence and their growth to a global superpower. The narrative of peace liberty and the pursuit of happiness is clouded by overt racism that Brown and Black people from so-called “shithole countries” are not welcomed here, quoted by the President of the United States himself on tape.
The most disturbing thing is citizens who are in the position to affect this cruel, inhumane violation of fundamental human rights are more concerned with buying makeup that is cruelty-free instead of demanding their state and local leaders to do something about the cruelty inflicted on these children.
How is it there is more outrage and call to action when animals, especially domesticated animals, are treated cruelly or killed by the hands of humans? Recently political activist and journalist Shaun King started posting pictures of immigrant children who died in the custody of these detention facilities. This was done to put a face on these babies.
It worked, my heart broke, seeing their sweet faces and how young they were, their lives were cut short due to racist policies and corporate greed. Let’s call a spade a spade the current administration is racist as fuck. Folks walk around drinking their lattes and matcha teas living their lives unbothered and unphased at the devastation immigrant families are subjected to. Regardless of why parents are risking their lives to cross the borders, the inhumane, cruel treatment of these people is beyond fucked up.
“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world…would do this, it would change the earth.” ~ William Faulkner
If the same treatment were to happen to a dog, Oh my fucking God, folks would be lining up in front of their local political leader’s offices and protesting the rights and humane treatment of these furry creatures. Where is the same energy for 2-year-old Wilmer Josue Ramirez Vasquez, 8-year-old Felipe Gomez Alonzo, 7-year-old Jakelin Amei Rosemery Caal Maquin, or the countless unnamed children who have died in government custody? Innocent children ripped from the arms of their family members, placed in a cage living in inhumane, disgusting, filthy living conditions in a country foreign to them, surrounded by people who speak a language they don’t understand and know. This is a very terrifying ordeal for anyone.
My heart breaks for the families of these dead babies, I could not imagine the feeling of escaping violent conditions of their homeland to find asylum only to have your child kidnaped, placed in a cage only to die alone in the custody of a government agency.
Every time I see a post about a person calling to action about a dog being mistreated I just want to scream are you fucking serious? Are you actually serious? Are you that tone-deaf? Fundamental human rights are being stripped, and nothing except for social media posts are being done. While new commentators argue back and forth on semantics terminologies is it a concentration camp or not. Government leaders across all party lines are doing nothing. They spend more time commenting on social media instead of actually doing something tangible. The hypocrisy is if this were done in another country where the people are not Brown or Black, the government would definitely step in.
If animals were being oppressed like this, the people would step in and demand the government to do something. Something substantial would actually be done about it. It’s so heartbreaking being in a situation, helpless and unable to do something to help free these babies, reunite them with their families. Many people on social media pretty much share the same viewpoint if this was done in a private home child protective services would be called, someone would be charged with kidnapping, neglect, child endangerment and a who slew of crimes against these babies. I don’t know how many times I can type how messed up this is.
Something more tangible needs to be done. These government officials were elected to have the people’s best interests served not to line their pockets. This isn’t right on so many levels. It just shows the racist hypocrisy of Pro-Life, Religious Groups, and even Democrats. Yep, I said it. They are no different than the Homogenous Republicans. It’s too bad the world is too afraid to call out the United States for their Gross Human Rights violations. I just hope it doesn’t take an election cycle for substantiated change to happen and be executed.
I will end this article with this quote though written almost 50 years ago it is relevant just substitute Black with any race, religion, and ethnicity affected by discrimination:
“No, I’m not an American. I’m one of 22 million black people who are the victims of Americanism. One of the … victims of democracy, nothing but disguised hypocrisy. So I’m not standing here speaking to you as an American, or a patriot, or a flag-saluter, or a flag-waver — no, not I! I’m speaking as a victim of this American system. I don’t see any American dream; I see an American nightmare!” — Malcolm X
Since this article was written 4 months ago more children have died alone in the custody of these detention centers. Some have families who are unaware of the status of these innocent children. Something really needs to be done about this.
